Scenery around Jonker Walk, Malacca

Cheng Hoon Teng, Malacca

Cheng Hoon Teng, our next destination, is the oldest and surely one of the grandest Chinese temples in Malaysia. The temple, with its curved roof ridge, cut-and-paste chien nien decoration, and gable design, reflects the architectural style of South China, of craftsmen from Fujian and Guangdong. It has recently been restored, and in the process garnered a prestigious Unesco award for outstanding architectural restoration.

Stadhuys, Malacca

After we walked down from St Paul's Hill and we arrived at Stadhuys. The Stadhuys is one of Malacca's most recognisable landmarks – Built in 1650, it was the Dutch administrative centre with a clock tower and painted in bright red.

St Paul's Hill, Malacca

After visiting the Sultanate Palace, we walked up to the St Paul's Hill. St Paul's Hill is also known as Bukit Saint Paul. St. Paul sits on the hill just behind the A'Famosa Fotress. Built at 1571 by the Portuguese and regularly visited by St Francis Xavier from China. His statue also standing still in the front of this ruins. On top of St. Paul's Hill is the St. Paul's Church, once the prayer house of the Portuguese Catholics, then turned into burial ground for their noble dead by the Dutch. The tombstones have Latin and Portuguese inscriptions on them. St. Francis Xavier was buried here in 1553 before his body was moved to Goa in India.

Malacca City Tour

There are few colleagues coming from Germany to Malacca recently for a short business trip. Of cause, me and few of my local colleagues are bringing those visitors to go around in Malacca. This is Sunday and after our Japanese food lunch,we decided to have a city tour from the hotel we had lunch to some of the historical places in Malacca. Although I am a Malaccan, me myself has been a very long time do not walk around in Malacca for those tourism places. This is quite a good opportunity for me to take some photos of Malacca.

First, we walked to the Memorial of Independence, Malacca. And next to it is the A'Famosa. A'Famosa is a fortress and it is among the oldest surviving European architectural remains in Asia. The Porta de Santiago, a small gatehouse, is the only remaining part of the fortress still standing.

There is a Sultanate Palace just near the A'Famosa. It is a museum, also known as the Istana (Sultanate Palace), is a replica of Sultan Mansur Shah's palace, the famous Sultan who ruled Melaka from 1456 to 1477.
